The Razor Crest Landing
This was a personal project made with the help of CGStirk’s Razor Crest VFX Lecture series on Youtube. It served as an introduction to V-Ray and EmberGen, a real-time simulation software, which I used to create the billowing dust effect as the ship lands. This shot also required a lot of compositing and color grading. I adjusted the lighting to bring out more detail in the Razor Crest model and used masks to break up and randomize the dust. To give this shot a more cinematic feel, I used a depth pass to create depth-of-field blur, added lens glare and a slight camera shake.
Here is a quick breakdown of the 3D viewport in Maya, along with a few stages of the compositing process:
Software Used:
Maya: Layout / Lookdev / Lighting / Animation
EmberGen: Dust Simulation
V-Ray: Rendering
Nuke: Compositing
